Grades K-1

Dynamic Leaps. Enthusiastic Learners.

The transformative years of Kindergarten and 1st grade usher in a new sense of wonder, learning, and joy. As students embark on a journey of discovery, their teachers guide them to greater confidence through “learning by doing” and emphasize the critical thinking skills required for future success.

Interactive learning is the hallmark of Kindergarten and 1st grade, when students are encouraged in all aspects of child development–social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and physical. Through a challenging curriculum, our teachers support the development of these emerging confident readers, creative writers, and inquisitive, thoughtful mathematicians. Students grow in their love of God and are inspired to view the world from the perspective of loving kindness, which shows in their relationships with friends and teachers and helps create the “service for others” culture that permeates our school.

Many of our youngest students come to us as digital natives already familiar with technology. We recognize the value of technology to enhance education when introduced at appropriate intervals. Through the integration of SMART boards in every classroom, a weekly trip to the computer lab, and an introduction to the early world of coding in STEM, students sharpen their computer skills and begin to understand technology’s place in education in a safe and developmentally sound way.

Day in the Life

Kindergarten and 1st grade students are on campus for a full day of school from 7:55 a.m.-2:40 p.m., with Aftercare available until 6 p.m. Students are placed in self-contained classrooms with a teacher and full-time assistant in each. Core lesson times are flexible and allow time for the instruction to flow naturally based on student engagement. Classes last approximately 44 minutes.

“I have always known that my children were in the best hands at CKS, and five years later, this place continues to amaze us! The teachers are incredible, the sense of family is undeniable and it even extends beyond the classroom. Imagine my surprise one Saturday morning when I looked up to see my daughter's teacher cheering her on during her softball game. To me, this exemplifies how CKS is not just a school–it is a family! And it's a family that I could never imagine raising my kids without.”  Mother of a CKS 1st and 3rd grader
