Name

Janyll M. Lavandeira

Education

Bachelor’s in Psychology; Master’s in Early Childhood Education with a Concentration in Curriculum and Instruction

What is the most valuable lesson you've learned while teaching?

The most valuable lesson that I've learned while teaching has been that although I am the instructor in the classroom, but my students are my greatest teachers.

What is your favorite food?

Sushi

What are your hidden talents?

I love to dance!

What is your dream vacation?

I love to experience the world! A dream vacation would entail visiting a place that I have yet to visit whether nationally or internationally.

What do you consider your greatest accomplishment?

Obtaining my master’s degree would be one of my greatest accomplishments to date.

When you were in Kindergarten, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A teacher!

What adjective best describes you?

Sincere.

What is your favorite classroom activity/project? Why?

I am passionate about project-based learning. There is no greater excitement for both students and me than when the students take charge in their learning and pave the course of their educational experience. Acting as the facilitator and guide, students direct me to what and how they learn. The fun and creative portion for me with this approach is coming up with activities and experiences that target the grade level skills and standards in interesting and connected ways.

What is one thing you want your students to take away from this school year?

I want my students to grow to love school and learning and to grow an understanding of God's love for them.

Why do you teach?

I feel that by being a positive role model in the lives of the children I teach, I have the ability to leave a lasting impression. As an early childhood educator, I get to be a part of the development of a child. My goal is to provide children with a memorable and special experience that they can take in their hearts throughout their educational journey. I teach to affect the future.

Why do you love CKS?

CKS is such a warm and loving school, filled with passionate educators, loving families and dedicated staff. CKS is not only a school, it is a family–that is what sets it apart from many other schools. CKS is truly GOD-centered and children can see Him throughout the campus, whether it is in the kindness of others, their warm smiles or in the daily prayers we pray collectively. You can truly feel God's presence here.
