Second grade’s Easter clothes pin project–the kids love it and it makes a great keepsake!

A love of learning

Faculty Friday feat. Mrs. Burns

This week’s Faculty Friday features one of the newest members of our CKS family–a veteran middle school professional who brings the upbeat personality and energy required to keep our oldest Lions on their toes! Meet Mrs. Tracey Burns, a fun, spirit-filled 7th and 8th grade Social Studies teacher known for innovation in her instruction and a true understanding of the middle school student. 7th and 8th grade Social Studies 

What is the most valuable lesson you've learned while teaching?

Learning happens in so many different ways and sometimes even when you’re not expecting it!

What is your favorite food?

Mexican

What are your hidden talents?

I'm pretty athletic (and just a little bit competitive!!)

What is your dream vacation?

Cruise to Alaska

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Running & Swimming

When you were in Kindergarten, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Dolphin trainer

What adjective best describes you?

Energetic

What is your favorite classroom activity/project? Why?

Supreme Court Justice Role-Play – Students have to "pretend" to be a Supreme Court judge and give a presentation from their perspective. I always love to see the kids act out these roles.

What is one thing you want your students to take away from this school year?

That I genuinely care about each of them and that every one of them is unique and special. They are each important and loved.

Why do you teach?

Summers of course!! But honestly, because I love to see the kids learn new concepts and apply them to real life situations.

Why do you love CKS?

The community is loving and so full of the Spirit!

What is the most valuable lesson you've learned while teaching?

Teaching has taught me to be more patient.

What is your favorite food?

Without a doubt-PIZZA!

What are your hidden talents?

I’m a pretty good cook!

What is one interesting fact about you?

I once saved someone’s life using CPR.

What is your dream vacation?

My dream vacation is to go on an African Safari.

What do you consider your greatest accomplishment? 

I think my greatest accomplishment is raising our two children together with my husband. We couldn’t be more proud of who they have become.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

In my spare time I enjoy traveling, reading, cooking, boating and scuba diving.

When you were in Kindergarten, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I’ve always wanted to be a teacher!

What is your favorite classroom activity/project? Why?

I very much enjoy putting on our First Grade Mother’s Day Tea. It’s so much fun hosting our moms and making them feel special and appreciated. Our students work so hard to get our classroom ready. It’s such a special day for us all.

What is one thing you want your students to take away from this school year?

I want my students to realize how much they can make a difference in the lives of others.

Why do you teach?

It’s so much fun to be around children!

I love CKS because together, we make the world a better place.

What is the most valuable lesson you've learned while teaching?

Every single child is different and special in their own way. Seeing a child succeed at something they previously struggled with is the most rewarding experience.

What is your favorite food?

Sushi

What are your hidden talents?

Photography and scrapbooking

What is one interesting fact about you?

I got married at Disney World and had a photo shoot in the Magic Kingdom before it opened.

What do you consider your greatest accomplishment? 

Getting my degree in something I’m truly passionate in and care for so much.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Binge watching tv shows. I also love to travel and go to theme parks.

When you were in Kindergarten, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A teacher.... I think. I’m honestly not sure if I wanted to be anything other than a Disney princess, but I always loved playing school and being the teacher.

Loyal

What is one thing you want your students to take away from this school year?

That it is ok to make mistakes because they help us grow.

Why do you teach?

To inspire students to find as much joy in learning as I do. I want students to find school fun and to show them how fun it can be while accomplishing all they need to understand.

Why do you love CKS?

I am brand new, and I just keep telling everyone how welcoming every single staff and faculty member truly is! I have known Fr. Len my whole life, and he knew I would love the school. He was correct. From how much fun the administration is to how kind and generous all the teachers and assistants have been, I can’t express how honored and blessed I feel to be a part of such a warm and welcoming community and family!
